Exotic lumber comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Sometimes an exotic lumber importer contacts us and sends us some photos of what looks like a small branch from an exotic tree. At times our response starts off a bit sarcastically, but we soon realize they are serious. It is quite amazing how many varieties of these exotics exist.
Exotic lumber is nowhere close to a typical two-by-six at Home Depot. First of all, most of the lumber is incredibly heavy. Some exotics have been known to weigh eighty pounds when cut as a two-by-four, eight feet long. In addition to the weight, the really cool slivers one can receive, in comparison to a typical piece of pine, brings much excitement to our day. Some of slivers seem to join your body faster than you can "NO!".
Another thing to add about exotic lumber is the potential for irritation when exposed to dust. Some woodworkers have commented that certain species seem to bother them, whether it is itchy eyes, coughing, or both. As we add more information about our exotic lumber to this website, we hope to include some of this safety information. (If you have any specific information that you would like to share, please contact us via email and we will jot it down in the update log.)
Like our domestic hardwood lumber, the exotic lumber is either cut into specific sizes for certain applications or stored in our lumber racks. Internet customers can call or email to order up a certain size, or board feet amount, of any species we stock. In the event that we do not have the wood you are looking for, give us a chance to put a quote together for you. We work with exotic lumber suppliers all around the world.
